Low Cost Low Effort

As a general rule, establishing a saltland pasture will be at least as expensive as any custom established pasture on non-saline land. Saltland Solutions that require hand planting (such as nursery raised saltbush or tubestock for non-grazing options) will be significantly more expensive than regular pasture establishment.

During the Sustainable Grazing no Saline Lands initiative (SGSL) farmers tested saltland options across southern Australia – the surprise result was that saltland that was simply fenced and rotationally grazed yielded (on average) 50% of the growth achieved from sown saltland pastures.

Using his Solution Explorer, Genie has pre-selected Saltland Solution 2 (Fence and volunteer pasture) below so you can explore it further using the toggles along the top and the ‘get summary’ buttons.

If you want to add other Saltland Solutions into the comparison then tick the ‘add to comparison’ box on the Solutions of interest.
